What choices does my flotilla have for supporting Sea Scouts?

Follow these steps

  1. Attend the AuxScout Video available An introduction to Sea Scouts (33:40) workshop
  2. Read the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
  3. Appoint a Flotilla Staff Officer for the AuxScout program (FSO-AS)
  4. Take the BSA YPT and Sea Scout Adult Leader Basic Training course. Be sure to send your YPT completion certificate through your FC to your Director of Auxiliary (DIRAUX) office to be added to your AUXDATA record.
  5. Attend the AuxScout Video available AuxScout Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) workshop (41:00) workshop
  6. Become thoroughly familiar with AuxBWiki and the Sea Scouts BSA website
  7. Identify local Ships in the flotilla’s AOR using the Flotilla-Ship map
  8. Decide whether your flotilla will be supporting 1 or more Sea Scout Ships, or alternatively whether it wants to start a new Ship
  9. Consider the options presented in the AuxScout Video available What is AuxScout? (45:30) workshop in the Recommended engagement activities section:
    • Pairing up with an existing Ship
    • Start a new Sea Scout Ship
    • Joint public affairs activities with Sea Scouts
    • Safety at Sea events
    • Providing training to Sea Scout Ships
    • Joint waterway cleanup project
  10. Develop a Flotilla AuxScout tactical plan for 2023-24; communicate it to the division’s Sea Scout SO
  11. If your flotilla is supporting one or more local Ships, reach out to the Skipper and discuss what support they need
  12. If your flotilla is interested in starting a Ship, contact the Sea Scout Council Commodore or local Scout Council
  13. Submit monthly reports to the Division Staff Officer - AuxScout (SO-AS) and the Sea Scout Council Commodore
