Recreational Boating, the Auxiliary, the Girl Scouts, the Elementary Schools, and the Assemblyman

As a member of the Auxiliary I got involved in teaching the Boating Fun course to second graders at the request of a teacher I met while standing watch at a boat show. I have been doing this for the past five years. This I found to be a great way to educate the kids on boating safety as well as their parents, because I send them home with literature and knowledge they share with their parents. Three years ago I started teaching this course to the kids at my daughters school during their Health and Wellness Fair, also connecting with the parents in the same manner. As a Girl Scout Leader I started teaching not only girl scouts but cub scouts the same course in my association. While visiting a recruiting station in my area I met a gentleman with whom I struck up a conversation about the auxiliary and the girl scouts, he called to ask a favor. He gave the Gold Awards to the girl scouts from the Coast Guard, he had two in one night and asked if I would deliver one while he did the other. I was honored and agreed, and have been doing it ever since.

I became the liaison between the auxiliary and a Assemblyman in our area who does a Marine Expo. I not only have the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary, but also my girl scouts at this event to help promote boating safety. I find you get to the kids, you get to the parents. I am always being asked questions on boating regulations and classes.
